Understand the mechanics of the car
Engine compartment.
1. Washer fluid
– Enough for the trip
(Can be seen in the computer if it is about to be empty)
2. Coolant
– Between min. and max.
(Can be seen on the side of the container)
3. Refilling oil
4. Dipstick
– Oil between min. and max.
1. Pull up the dipstick.
2. Wipe it off.
3. Put it down again.
4. Pull it up again, and note the oil level.
5. Brake Fluid
– Between min. and max..
(Can be seen in the computer if something is wrong)
Lights
All lights need to be clean, intact and functioning.
All pairs of lights on the car need to have the same color and strength.
2 Low beam headlights
– White or yellow light.
– Must be visible from a distance of 30 m.
– About a 1% fall.
(Approx. 1 cm per m)
– Asymmetrical lighting to the right
(Not allowed to be blinding)
2 High beam headlights
– White or yellow light.
– Must be visible from a distance of 100 m.
(Allowed to be blinding)
2 Position lamps
– White or yellow light.
– Must be visible from a distance of 300 m.
(Not allowed to be blinding)
2 Taillights
– Must be visible from a distance of 300 m.
2 or 3 Brake lights
– Must be significantly more powerful than the taillights.
License plate light
– At least 1 is required.
– If there are 2 then both need to be working.
– Light needs to be white.
– Licinse plate must be visible from a distance of 20 m.
Reflector
– At least 2 is required
– They must be red and not be triangular
Turn signal lights (Yellow)
Turn signals must be visible in daylight.
If the turn signals are blinking faster than normal then that is typically a sign that one or more of the lights don’t work.
Hazard lights
If activated, all the turn signals must turn on simultaneously, even if the car is turned off.
Brakes
Main brake
The main brake must be fast, safe and effective at all speeds and loads.
Vacuum-assisted brake system (power brakes)
Checking the Vacuum Booster:
– Press on the foot brake hard 3-6 time (pump it) to it gets hard, and then start the engine
– The brake pedal must then sink a little, but must not be able to be pressed all the way down.
The pedal
The footbrake must have 1 cm of free play before it starts two brakes the car.
– The maximum halfway down the brake must be hard and firm.
– The brake pedal must be fitted with a non-slip surface
Parking brake (Handbrake)
The handbrake must be mechanical.
– The handbrake must not be able to get all the way up
– It need to stay upwards and to maintain a brake tension.
– The handbrake must hold the car in place on a inclined road.
Horn
Hornet
Must have a clear and constant tone.
Tested by pressing it 😜
Shock suspension
Shock absorber (Shock suspension)
The shock absorbers must work on all four wheels.
Checking the shock absorber
Press hard on the car (above the shock absorber) so it start moving and then let go.
The car must come to rest immediately, may only jump once.
Tires
It is required to have the same type of tires on all wheels.
– Summer, winter or studded tires (Spiked tires)
Studded tires may only be used from
– 1. November until 15. April
Must be a min. 1,6 mm tread depth.
Must be a correct tire pressure according the car manufacturer.
Steering
Styretøj
The steering must function easily, safely and quickly.
– There must be no noticeable free play in the steering system itself or generally in any of the related parts.
– The wheels must precisely follow the movements of the steering wheel.
Checking free play
Cars with power-assisted steering must have the engine running.
Make sour the front wheels are pointing forwards.
Roll down the window of the left front door.
Get out of the car, close the door, and turn the steering wheel through the window from side to side.
Observe the front wheels when you do this. (For right wheel, ask for help)
If you can turn the steering wheel without the wheels are moving,
there is free play in the steering system, that is not permitted.
Mirrors
A car must be equipped with a driver mirror inside and a driver mirror outside on the left side.
– There must be a mirror outside on the right if the inside mirrors visibility is insufficient.
– All mirrors ned to be clean, whole and adjusted correctly.
Exhaust system
The exhaust system
– must have no holes or leaks
– must be tight and secure.
Black or bluish smoke must not come out of it.
